The University of Birmingham Students for Justice in Palestine's mission is to raise awareness among the University of Birmingham’s students on the human rights violations occurring in Palestine and to campaign for an end to those violations.
Students for Justice in Palestine has the following guiding principles:
1. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.
2. All violations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights should be condemned.
3. An end to the Israel/Palestine conflict should be achieved through application of international humanitarian law and through democratic process.
4. The occupation by Israel of the Palestinian Territories should be ended immediately.
5. The society is opposed to all forms of racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism in particular, and will not host nor work with individuals identified as racists.
University of Birmingham Students for Justice in Palestine aims:
1. To raise awareness among the students of the University of Birmingham of the human rights violations occurring in the Palestine.
2. To support charities aiding human rights violation victims in the Palestine by raising funds among students of the University of Birmingham.
3. To stimulate positive debate on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict between students of the University of Birmingham.
4. To cooperate with other organisations supporting the Palestinian cause, encouraging and assisting students to take part in their campaigns.
5. To challenge the current discourse on, and media frame of, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
The University of Birmingham Students for Justice in Palestine hopes to achieve these aims through the following methods:
1. Inviting speakers with relevant knowledge or experience about the Israel/Palestine conflict.
2. Arranging debates on the Israel/Palestine conflict, in cooperation with other relevant Guild of Students societies.
3. Organise cultural evenings celebrating Palestinian culture.
4. Send society members to events, conferences, summits, to network with other organizations involved in activism relating to the Palestinian cause.
5. Hold weekly meetings with society members to discuss progress, future projects and new ideas.
